Eliminate
heat loss through windows with CosyGlazing from Mitchell & Dickinson

As a nation we could be saving an average of £10bn each year if our homes were better insulated. * This is a significant figure that cannot be ignored. Mitchell & Dickinson offers CosyGlazing, an advanced seamless secondary glazing system, which not only looks great, preserving original features, but will retain heat and help with acoustic insulation and security, whilst improving the overall EPC rating too.
So, what is it really? CosyGlazing is a made to measure, bespoke secondary window which affixes to your current window regardless of size and shape to create an insulated air gap. This reduces heat loss through the window and, together with its effective draught proofing system, also cuts out up to 70% of draughts. In most cases it also helps prevent condensation forming to ensure a warmer home all round. The overall thermal performance is almost as good as double glazing but without the need to replace your windows.
Fitted from the inside and invisible from the outside the system does not require any alterations to the outside of the property so your home will keep those all-important original features. And that, together with the fact that it is completely reversible, makes it compatible with listed and conservation area requirements.
Unlike old fashioned aluminium secondary glazing, which you have to slide open to get to your original window, CosyGlazing allows you to open and close your windows without having to remove the secondary glazing.
Owners of period or listed homes are unaware that a total of 50% of the heat generated from their current energy source can be lost through original glass windows and general draughts. Owners of listed buildings are unable to change the fabric of their windows to materials such as uPVC or aluminium, while timber replacements can be very costly, require planning permission and is not an eco-friendly option overall given that the old windows end up in landfill.
CosyGlazing is the perfect solution for all sash, casement and stone mullioned windows in period and listed properties as it does not hinder the original mechanics of opening the windows which can be opened and closed as usual. As the system is completely bespoke and hand crafted, Mitchell & Dickinson will also craft new window furniture or brassware to ensure everything fits without compromise to the original architectural style. The system is completely invisible from the outside, so conforms to conservation requirements for Grade 1 and Grade 2 listed buildings. The company even offers a colour match service where the frames can be painted the same shade as your woodwork for a truly seamless finish.
The CosyGlazing system employs plexiglass fixed with magnetic tape. It is fully integrated with the windows which are reengineered and draught proofed. Draught proofing is essential because, unlike many fixed or opening systems, the secondary glazing does not cover the junctions between the window and the frame. For occasional cleaning, the glazing units, which are held in place with magnets, can be removed.

So far, over 100,000 tonnes of CO2e have been saved since Mitchell & Dickinson started insulating homes in 2010. This equates to 800,000 return flights to Paris, or 50,000 petrol cars taken off the road for a year (Other possible comparisons: a third of a billion petrol car miles avoided / the carbon absorbed in one year by 40 million trees)
