Insulate your home to eliminate heat loss and counterbalance the energy hike price

Never has there been a more pertinent time to address heat loss in our homes.  With the looming energy price hikejust a fewweeks away, we need to ensure that our homes retain as much energy as possible. The government is encouraging homeowners to embrace heat pumps and alternative energy sources but in short,we should ensure that any heat generated stays firmly within the home and isn't seeping out of the windows, through the floorboards or through the roof. And the problem of heatloss is even more acute in older homes, which impacts the UK in particular given that more than 25% of our housing stock is over 125 years old.

On 1 October 2024 energy prices will rise for most homeowners by around 10%.The government has given the green lightfor the standing charge and unit prices to increase. In effect our energy prices have nearly doubled since pre-crisis rates. *

Insulation specialist,Mitchell and Dickinson, offers a sustainable and robust approach to ensuring our homes are fully draught-proof and as thermally efficient as can be with products and services such asCosyGlazing,- a unique secondary glazing system - and the installation of sheep's wool under floors and cold lofts. The company also specialises in insulating sloping ceilings, which are often a feature of older properties traditionally poorly constructed.

Mitchell & Dickinson specialises in period and listed properties and these houses often have beautiful but inefficient to single glazed, draughty old windows and doors and inadequate insulation and can tackle the key areas where heatloss occurs in a period property as illustrated in the diagram below.

We cannot ignore the energy price hike but let's ensure we are not turning up the heating unnecessarily to accommodate draughts and ineffective windows.
