Community Transport Association receives £10,000 to support training for inclusivity and accessibility

WRS Insurance Brokers are delighted to announce that a £10,000 Movement for Good Large Grants Award has been donated to the Community Transport Association (CTA). The Benefact Group's Movement for Good Awards are giving over £1million to good causes this year, with over £500,000 being granted in the larger grants category.

WRS Insurance Brokers and Business Choice Direct (BCD) Insurances Services have recently begun working in partnership with the Community Transport Association (CTA), to support their members with their insurance needs and the £10,000 grant has helped get the collaboration off to a great start.

Impacting the lives of disabled people

Dr Victoria Armstrong, Chief Executive, CTA said: "I am delighted that the CTA have been awarded a grant of £10,000 from the Movement for Good programme. The grant will significantly contribute to the transformation of our accessible driver training and ensure that it is contemporary, user led, and up to date. It will mean that more disabled people travelling via Community Transport experience safe, legal, and comfortable journeys across the UK in years to come."

The CTA's Movement for Good grant will go towards transforming the content for their national training scheme for drivers supporting passengers with additional needs. The new accessible content will take an innovative and person-centred approach to supporting disabled people, working towards an inclusive society, particularly in terms of travel. When it is launched next Spring, the training will impact the lives of hundreds of disabled people who make their journeys via Community Transport.

The Movement for Good Awards large grants provide charities with flexible funding that can be used within three years and for a blend of project and core funding costs.

Giving back

WRS Insurance Brokers and Business Choice Direct are both proudly part of the Benefact Group, which is owned by one of the UK's leading grant-making charities, the Benefact Trust. The Movement for Good Awards are designed to help charities make a real difference in their communities.

Gungor Baykan, Head of Broking and Operations at WRS, said: "We are thrilled to see the CTA receive this valuable grant. At WRS, our commitment goes beyond providing insurance; community development is at the centre of what we do and we aim to empower and support the incredible work that charities such as the CTA do in their communities. The Movement for Good Awards are truly making a difference in helping promote a more inclusive society."

Tristan Scaife, Commercial Director at BCD added "Ever since we started working with the CTA, I've enjoyed getting to know the members and hearing about all the wonderful work they do for their communities. The fact that we've been able to support and enhance their work further through the Movement for Good Awards is fantastic news, and I cannot wait to see this come to life in the spring."

More than 1,000 charities applied for the funding which is being put towards causes supporting education and skills, rural and community development, heritage, arts and culture, and climate change and environment. The winning projects were selected against four criteria: impact and effectiveness, sustainability, innovation, and care and compassion.

Championing innovation

Mark Hews, Group Chief Executive of Benefact Group, said: "We understand the importance of longer-term funding for charities, especially when trying to bring ambitious new ideas to life and get larger transformative projects off the ground. Through our large grants, we are actively championing innovation, giving charities the backing they need to propel their plans forward and turn creative ideas into practical solutions that benefit society. Benefact Group is the third largest corporate donor in the UK and has an ambition to be the biggest. Owned by a charity ourselves, charitable giving is at the heart of what we do and all of our available profits go to good causes."
