James Bartholomew |Big Sea
For Christmas, Whitewater Contemporary presents new work by Lancashire based painter James Bartholomew RSMA. Over more than thirty years, James has travelled extensively and made his name as a contemporary British seascape and landscape painter, known for his relaxed and energetic painting style, whose work explores the interplay between subject and light, and the ways in which the seasons and changing weather can alter the essential atmosphere of a place.
This collection responds to the dynamic Cornish coast, which has inspired James' work for 25 years. From surging winter oceans to the glittering stillness of the coastline in spring, his work takes in stunning locations from Kynance Cove on the Lizard Peninsula to Newquay's idyllic Polly Joke, and the beaches and coves around Padstow and Port Isaac.
James Bartholomew has been a full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists since 2002 and his work has received notable awards including the Charles Pears Award and the Kenneth Denton Award. He exhibits regularly at the Federation of British Artists and his work is found in private and corporate collections around the world.
