This October, Whitewater Contemporary present new work by Andrew Barrowman, a Cornwall based artist whose profile has been raised significantly this year by his inclusion on Sky Arts Landscape Painter of the Year. Andrew is aplein airartist who sketches and paints outdoors in Cornwall's most beautiful and dramatic locations, using a variety of mediums from charcoal, graphite and pastel to egg tempura and oil paint. His sketches are then used to inspire larger scale studio works in both oil and charcoal, works that express his love of Cornwall's beautiful coastline and unique moorland scenery. This new collection, created exclusively for Whitewater Contemporary, is inspired by the coastline from St Ives in West Cornwall to Polzeath on the wild North Coast, and includes views of iconic locations such as Porthmeor, Gwithian, Godrevy, Holywell Bay, Bedruthan Steps and the Camel Estuary.

In 2021, Andrew Barrowman was awarded the Bowyer Drawing Prize at The New English Art Club annual exhibition. In 2023 he was elected as an associate member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and as a full member of the Pastel Society. In early 2024 he won the Artist Magazine Award at the Pastel Society's 125th exhibition, and then took part in Sky Arts Landscape Painter of the Year. He is also the author ofViews from the Studio Window, a book of 120 oil sketches looking out from his studio over the course of a year.
