Haddonstone, the very best namein the design and manufacture of architectural cast stonework, has an enviable heritage which spans over 50 years. Theinternational market leader has a manufacturing plant in Northamptonshire where 80% of their products, for both residential and commercial projects, are manufactured by local craftspeople on a bespoke basis.  Complementary cast stone landscaping and garden designs are also produced by the company, and these can be viewed in Haddonstone's beautiful Show Gardens, located at their head office.

The secret to the success of the heritage brand is the skills of the craftspeople who design and manufacture all the designs by hand.  With a varied workforce which includes some staff members who have worked at the company for over four decades, the next generation at Haddonstone looks set to be just as strong given its commitment to training eager young apprentices.

Katherine Kates, Haddonstone's Production Director, explains "Haddonstone has invested in several apprentices over the years and both we as a business, and the apprentices themselves, have always found it to be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Investing in young, local talent is important to us so that we can develop a skilled, qualified and motivated workforce. Supporting apprentices through training in our manufactory and via vocational day-release courses is an effective way for us to help develop our staff's expertise and retain them for the future."

One such apprentice is Oli West, a 23-year-old apprentice who hasworked at Haddonstone forover two years.  He is currently studying theLevel 2 Fabrication and WeldingcourseatNorthampton College, where he attends thecourse on day-release, every Monday. The rest of the weeksees him working in Haddonstone's metal shop where he benefits fromfurther training on the job.

The course, which Oli will finish in March 2025,comprises ten modulesand includes classroom-based theory and practical workshop sessions in the craft of structural and general metal welding. Italsocovers aspects of health and safety as well as the legal requirements for working in a professional setting. The course is assessedviaa combination of online exams, written assignments and practical assessments.

Olicomments, "I'm really enjoying studying myLevel 2 Fabrication and Welding college courseandworking here at Haddonstone. It's a great opportunity for me to learn the theory as well as the practical aspects of working in the industry and I am able to apply these to my day-to-day role. I've learned so much already and I'm grateful to Haddonstone for supporting me on my career journey in this way".
