Paul Dwyer, Managing Director of Thomas Crapper “To make a partnership work well, two companies must share similar brand values and also share a similar history and mission. That’s why the partnership between us as an iconic bathroom manufacturer, Thomas Crapper (founded in 1861) and historic ceramic tile specialist, Craven Dunnill Jackfield (founded in 1872) has been developed. We are both longstanding, historic, well-respected brands which produce high-quality, beautiful products for customers.”
Thomas Crapper and Craven Dunnill Jackfield have come together to produce a collection* of complementary bespoke border dados, skirting and wall tiles. Customers have the choice of two sizes of border dados and five colours – black, white, teal, rose and cool grey. The wall tiles, which are 200cm x 100cm, will be available in the same colours.
Now, along with a beautiful range of bathroom products, Thomas Crapper will be providing interior design, retailers and residential customers with a collection of tiles to complete a cloakroom or main bathroom space.
Thomas Crapper’s Managing Director, Paul Dwyer, comments, “We are thrilled to be working with Nic and the team at Craven Dunnill Jackfield. The collaborative approach has been fantastic and we are excited to bring a range of handcrafted tiles and border dados to market.”
Both companies share long histories which are full of interesting stories. Craven Dunnill & Co Ltd was founded in 1872 by Henry Dunnill in Jackfield, Shropshire. At the dawn of the industrial revolution, the Ironbridge Gorge was the Silicon Valley of its day, offering a unique variety and abundance of raw materials essential to industrial innovation and invention. The company became renowned throughout the empire for its encaustic floor tiles and highly decorative wall tiles. After a move in the 1950s of its headquarters to Bridgnorth, the original factory was acquired by Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust, becoming one of their main museum sites.
Fast forward to 2000 and Craven Dunnill returned to the original site where the company is now the leading manufacturer of traditionally-styled decorative tiles and architectural ceramics for projects all over the world.
Nic Atherton, Craven Dunnill Jackfield’s Business Development Manager comments, “Thomas Crapper and Craven Dunnill Jackfield share a long and illustrious history and heritage in British manufacturing and have a mutual appreciation and commitment to producing products with provenance and authenticity. With a rich and intricate history, Thomas Crapper is renowned for making exquisite toilets and basins in timeless styles since 1861. With over 100 years of experience and just as much passion, they remain faithful to the time-honoured techniques that earned them a worldwide reputation.
In a unique collaboration, Craven Dunnill Jackfield has partnered with Thomas Crapper to support the company’s bathroom range with a range of ceramic tiles for any residential or commercial space. These products are designed and handmade in the UK, showcasing the very best of British design.
Craven Dunnill Jackfield is proud to undertake commissions from around the world, from one-off individual pieces to large scale developments; and in both restoration and new build projects, its products are winning awards and accolades because of their unique character and quality.”
This new collection will be available from early March through the Thomas Crapper retailer network.
