Caroline Cleave |Summer Sardines
This October, Polzeath's Whitewater Contemporary presents a new collection of work by much loved Port Isaac based painter and printmaker Caroline Cleave. Having travelled to Kosovo ,Spain and France with her art this year, this lively and touching new collection , titledReturn, explores ideas of returning to a place you love, a place that is special to your own life story, that lifts your spirits and renews your positivity. "It could be a real place like Port Isaac" says the artist, who lives and works there and whose family has lived in the town for over 400 years, "or it could be the county of Cornwall, or perhaps an imaginary place that you return to, or a way of being, living or working that you come back to whenever possible. In these challenging times we so often want to return to somewhere that gives us confort and makes us truly happy, and that sentiment is the basis for this exhibition".
The collection is the next in Caroline Cleave's ongoing series of works which celebrate her passion for the beauty of the Cornish coast and countryside, its unique communities, and the issues of economy and sustainability associated with those living and working in Cornwall's rural environment. Caroline works from her valley studio in the heart of Port Isaac, and her work is on permanent exhibition at Cornwall's Eden Project.
