A specialist logistics company has saved an estimated £50,000 in energy costs thanks to a bespoke charging solution for its new 26-strong fleet of materials handling trucks.
For more than a decade, energymanagement specialist Hoppecke Industrial Batteries has helped to power vital equipment operated by TechnoCargo Logistics Ltd and now the relationship has been taken to the next level.
At its distribution centre in Ripley, Derbyshire, TechnoCargo has switched to a new materials handling supplier, but insisted that Hoppecke was retained as part of the contract.
Garry Sheppard, Operations Manager at the 250,000 sq. ft. facility, explained: "Since around 2010 our fleet has been powered by batteries and charging equipment provided by Hoppecke, and we have enjoyed excellent levels of service and reliability.
"When we decided to replace our fleet, we insisted that the new supplier use Hoppecke's batteries which we have found to be exceptionally efficient. In fact, by installing Hoppecke's Trak Air charging system at the same time, we are set to save around £50,000 a year in electricity costs."
Part of the Vaillant Group, TechnoCargo provides logistics services to the leading manufacturer of boilers, heat pumps and heating systems and several other plumbing supplies firms. Its Ripley distribution hub moves around 5,000 pallets per day, with between 75-100 inbound and outbound lorry deliveries. Over a year, it forwards 1.2 million items, with a 99.98 per cent accuracy.
This is now achieved using an all-electric fleet made up of seven counterbalance forklifts, five reach trucks, 11 low level order pickers andthree powered pallet trucksfrom manufacturerLogisnext Mitsubishi.
Alongside the delivery of the new fleet, Hoppecke installed an upgraded version of its acclaimed MU changing system with an improved magnetic battery removal system.
Gus Whyte,Hoppecke Sales Director, commented: "The speed and accuracy of this magnetic system simplifies and speeds up the process of removing batteries from trucks while reducing wear and tear on the equipment - further improving the efficiency of the operation.
"The supply of this bespoke system for TechnoCargo reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible service to our customers, and one that is tailored to their individual needs."
