Sibling Yorkshire businesses celebrate export shortlist success

 

The teams at a Yorkshire Wolds brewery and a Yorkshire coast whisky distillery are celebrating after reaching the final of a regional award that champions exporters.

 

Wold Newton business, Wold Top Brewery and Hunmanby-based Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery have reached the final of the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards in the Small and Micro Exporter categories respectively.

 

Kate Balchin, director at the brewery and sister of the distillery's marketing director, Jenni Ashwood, said: "Despite the challenges posed by post-Brexit trading, exports remain an important and growing part of both our businesses. We're delighted to put our lovely part of Yorkshire on the export map by reaching the final of these prestigious awards."

 

Organised by UMi,in association with Department for Business and Trade,the Northern Powerhouse Export Awards aim to accelerate and inspire businesses of all shapes and sizes to do more and go further on their exporting journeys.

The winnerswill be announced on 28thJune at Middlesborough Town Hall.Speaking ahead of the event, UMi CEO, Nicki Clark, said: "We've been delighted with the level and quality of the entries which just shows how much export growth potential there is across the North of England." 
 

Wold Top was founded in 2003 by Mrs Balchin's parents, Tom and Gill Mellor on the family farm at Hunmanby Grange and Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery was established in 2016 by Tom Mellor and David Thompson.
