CTEK powers EVC electric vehicle charging at Macdonald Hotels
CTEK’s award-winning electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint unit is now powering guests’ cars across the Macdonald Hotels & Resorts portfolio, provided by EVC as part of an ongoing partnership between the hotel chain and the charge point operator.

The charging installation and management specialist EVC is rolling out EV charging at Macdonald’s 30 hotels over the next two years. Each fast charging installation features CTEK’s dual outlet CHARGESTORM CONNECTED 2 (CC2) AC chargepoints which provide up to 22kW at each outlet.

To date EVC has installed CC2 units at: The Bear Hotel in Woodstock, Oxfordshire; Portal Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort in Tarporley, Cheshire; Bath Spa Hotel in Bath; Linden Hall Hotel in Morpeth, Northumberland; Botley Park in Southampton; and Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. More sites will follow soon.

EVC is providing Macdonald Hotels & Resorts with fully funded installations which enable the hotel group to provide access to charging for the increasing number of visitors driving EVs. The fully funded model involves no capital expenditure by the hotel group plus generates revenue through usage of the chargers.

Hugh Cooper, Development Director at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with EVC to provide our guests with fantastic new charging facilities.

“It will greatly enhance the offering at our 30 hotels, giving guests reassurance that they can charge their EVs seamlessly, as they enjoy their time at our hotels, spas, golf courses, restaurants and other great amenities.”

EVC is installing charging facilities to meet current demand as well as future-proofing the sites by ensuring infrastructure is in place for additional chargers to be installed when needed.

At some hotels two CC2 units have been mounted back-to-back to provide four charging outlets from one pole, serving four EV parking spaces. In January CTEK won Electric Vehicle Chargepoint Manufacturer of the Year at the UK’s 2023 E-Mobility Awards.

Nick Ballamy, CEO at EVC, said: “This collaboration not only signifies their commitment to a sustainable future but also enables Macdonald Hotels’ guests to conveniently charge their electric vehicles while enjoying their stay.

“With this partnership, we aim to create a seamless experience for EV drivers, knowing that reliable and accessible charging facilities are readily available, giving them peace of mind when travelling.”

CTEK, based in Sweden, has sold more than 100,000 charging units. Cecilia Routledge, CTEK’s Global Director Energy and Facilities, said: “We are proud to be playing our part in this forward-thinking collaboration between EVC and Macdonald Hotels & Resorts.”

EVC this year secured up to £165 million in investment to accelerate its ambition to deliver 100,000 EV charge points across the UK by 2027. CTEK is in a five-year partnership with EVC to supply its AC charging equipment and scalable load balancing solutions.

Macdonald Hotels & Resorts is headquartered in Scotland and includes upmarket hotels, spas and golf resorts from Aberdeen down to the New Forest, each with its own unique style.
