British Breeding Baileys Horse Feeds Futurity Evaluation recognises
Elite Colt from West Yorkshire
Haydn and Charlotte Davies, based in Hebden Bridge, achieved success with their dressage bred colt
MSF Friday Feeling, earning the Elite accolade at the British Breeding Baileys Horse Feeds Futurity Evaluations at Reaseheath College, Cheshire recently.
"We are so pleased with how well he did, now the challenge is keeping him in one piece for the next few years till he's ready to be backed!" Charlotte said excitedly.
The Futurity Evaluation series aims to identify British-bred young potential sport horses and ponies destined for careers in dressage, eventing, showjumping or endurance. It may even find the stars of the future who will go on to compete at World Championships or become Olympic Champions.
MSF Friday Feeling was bred by the Woodlander Stud by Supertramp out of a Woiwode mare (West End Girl); her dam-line is built on one of the most successful Westfalen lines with multiple Grand Prix horses and at least 17 state stallions. Supertramp hasn't had a ridden career as her previous owners felt she needed time to mature for ridden work and put her in foal. "She has fallen into a life of being a broodmare having already produced 3 foals prior to our boy."
Storm is MSF Friday Feeling's stable name... "Storm has a fab personality, so curious about everything and extremely cheeky! He loves playing with our filly who is 2 days younger than him but they're both quick to come over for a scratch whenever we're around."
When asked about their plans for Storm's future Charlotte says "This is currently a topic of great debate with our house! We do intend to keep him, and I would love to have him as my next dressage horse; however, if he continues to do well in future Futurity events, we may consider putting him with a professional. Storm also seems to be putting himself in the running to be my husband's next event horse having jumped over his mum before he was a day old! He also jumped over a 1.10m wall out of his field at 6 weeks old, then casually popped the wall back into the field. Both impressive and terrifying to watch in equal measure!"
A Director of British Breeding says of the evaluations:"Wonderful quality young horses are again being presented this year and breeders are getting valuable feedback from the expert evaluators. Since its inception the Futurity has identified many youngsters who we are now seeing at top level competition and on British Teams such as Lordships Graffalo and Pencos Crown Jewel competing in Eventing with Ros Canter and Carouet competing with Sarah Bullimore."
Futurity scores are used by many breeders as a credible marketing tool for their young horses, adding value to a young horse whilst it is still too young to have achieved a performance record. For more information, visitwww.british-breeding.com
