Yorkshire Wolds brewery wins regional family business award

The team at a Yorkshire Wolds brewery is celebrating after winning an award that champions Yorkshire's family businesses.

Wold Newton based, Wold Top won the Food and Drink Producers award at the inaugural Yorkshire and Humberside Family Business Awards that took place in Leeds last week.

Kate Balchin, director at the brewery and the fourth generation to run a family business at Hunmanby Grange, said: "We faced some stiff competition, so we're delighted and honoured to win this award as we approach our 20^thanniversary."

The Yorkshire and Humberside Family Business Awards are organised and run by The Family Business Community.The winners wereannounced at a celebration dinner at Headingley Stadium on 11^thNovember that was hosted by awards founders, Sue Howorth and Dave Clarkson alongside food writer and presenter, Nigel Barden.

Awards Co-Founder Ms Howorth said: "We'd like to extend our congratulations to all our fantastic family business winners. The quality of entries was extremely high, making the judges' task of deciding upon the eventual winners a difficult one!

"Each one of our winners are truly exceptional family businesses, leading the way in their sectors with strong family business values. They should all be very proud of their achievements!"

The Family Business award was announced just two days afterMrs Balchin's father, Tom Mellor was presented with the July Bell Yorkshire Food Hero award at the deliciouslyorkshire awards.

Wold Top was founded in 2003 by Tom and Gill Mellor on the family farm at Hunmanby Grange and now produces an extensive range of bottled, cask and keg beers that are enjoyed throughout the UK and abroad.
