Yorkshire Wolds poultry business wins Yorkshire food award

 

The team at a Driffield poultry business is celebrating after its Yorkshire-reared chicken won a prestigious food award this week.

 

Soanes Poultry's Red Tractor-accredited Grain Fed Chicken won the Best Fresh Meat category at the deliciouslyorkshire Taste awards that are considered the largest food and drink awards programme in the region.

 

"We're always highly delighted and very proud to win awards for the quality of our chicken, but when the award comes from deliciouslyorkshire, the regional food group for Yorkshire and the Humber, and is judged by industry experts, chefs, supermarket buyers, writers, consultants and food entrepreneurs, that makes us doubly happy," said Soanes Poultry's Operations Manager, Simon Rodgers.

Announcing the winner,artisan food champion, Nigel Bardencommented: "Rarely does an entry cause such an intake of breath from the judging panel but this year's Fresh Meat winner, did just that! Reared on farms in the Yorkshire Wolds to the highest welfare standards, this product wasn't just visually sensational, it packed a punch on flavour too. 

"It looks great, it smells amazing, and the taste was out of this world. This product screams care and quality and was packed with moist, buttery, and delicious flavour throughout. A joy to eat and a seriously great piece of meat."

 

Jointly headline sponsored by the University of York School for Business and Society and FixOurFood, the deliciouslyorkshire Taste Awards attract hundreds of entries from Yorkshire businesses of all sizes. Led by head judges, Barden and chef consultant, Steph Moon, the entries were judged during an intense week of blind tastings and the prizes were awarded at a celebration dinner at the Pavilions in Harrogate on 9thNovember.

 

Soanes Poultry was founded by Tom Soanes and has been rearing and preparing chicken for 75 years. It sells chicken to butchers and independent retailers throughout Yorkshire and to wholesalers and catering butchers nationwide.
