Yorkshire malt whiskydistillery shortlisted for a regional tourism award
The team at Yorkshire's first single malt whisky distillery are celebrating after being shortlisted for a regional tourism award.
Hunmanby-based Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has reached the final in the ‘Tourist Attraction of the Year' category of theYorkshire PostTourism Awards 2022.
Organised by theYorkshire Post, the inaugural awardscelebrate the best of Yorkshire's hoteliers, B&Bs, restaurants, theme parks, visitor attractions and all businesses that attract tourists to the county.
Spirit of Yorkshire, home to Filey Bay whisky, faces competition from established tourism businesses including RHS Harlow Carr, Harewood House and The Piece Hall. The judging panel comprises chef consultant, Steph Moon, Taylors of Harrogate MD, Simon Eyles and tourism and hospitality experts, Susie Brindley and Philip Bolson.
"As a five-year-old business, we're highly delighted to be in the final alongside such well-established and respected tourist destinations," said Spirit of Yorkshire's MD, David Thompson.
"Our fabulous team thoroughly deserve this place in the final. They always go the extra mile to make sure that every visit to Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery is an amazing experience, whether it's locals meeting friends for a weekly coffee or tourists visiting for a distillery tour," added Front of House Manager, Claire Ball.
The winners will be announced at a black-tie dinner at the Headingley Stadium in Leeds on 5thDecember.
Spirit of Yorkshire is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor and business partner, David Thompson who fired up the stills at their distillery in the coastal village of Hunmanby in 2016 and launched Yorkshire's first single malt whisky in 2019.
