The completion of a landmark project by a leading local housing group is set to breathe fresh life into the heart of a popular Shropshire market town as the first residents move into their new homes.

The nine new homes in Shifnal, built for Housing Plus Group on the site of a disused pub, have already transformed the appearance of the area, and will now help to meet high demand for affordable housing in the town.

Builders T C Homes began to build the
three-bedroomed houseslast year and the first residents of Beehive Court will move in during the next few weeks.

Kerry Bolister, Director of development at Housing Plus Group, explained: "We are delighted to see the completion of a fantastic project that has already had a significant, positive impact on the town.

"The old Beehive pub and its car park had stood empty for several years, becoming something of an eyesore and attracting anti-social behaviour. Now the area has received a new lease of life, providing vital homes for affordable rent and shared ownership."

Built with the backing of local councillors, the new homes have been designed to meet the latest environmental standards. During their construction, the builders worked closely with the community to minimise any disruption.

Tim Charnley, TC Homes director, commented: "We have worked closely with Housing Plus Group on a number of previous projects, but we are particularly proud of this development as it has utilised a space that has sat dormant for some time, to meet a clear need for new homes.

"The project has provided opportunities for local sub-contractors and suppliers. It has been a pleasure working with Housing Plus Group to fulfil the potential of the site and. at the same time, we built close relationships with residents, schools, and the wider community while work was taking place."

Since the project was first given the green light by the local planning authority, interest in the development has been high, and the six homes for affordable rent and three shared ownership properties have all now been allocated or sold subject to contract.

Kerry Bolister added: "The completion of Beehive Court clearly demonstrates our continued focus on making a positive difference to homes, lives and communities across Staffordshire and Shropshire."
