Caffeine’s Joe Stockwell and team raise £23k+ for MacMillan
Caffeine’s Joe Stockwell and friends run up £23k+ for Macmillan in Amsterdam

Despite shin splints, tendinosis and torn ligaments, debut runners complete course

A team of debut marathon runners put together by Caffeine Limited’s business development manager Joe Stockwell has raised an astonishing £23,605 (and rising) in aid of MacMillan.  The team took part in the Amsterdam Marathon on October 9, running in memory of Joe’s mum’s best friend, Lisi Brydon, who sadly lost her battle with cancer earlier this year.

“Everyone knows someone who has had a brush with cancer,” says Joe.  “MacMillan is a wonderful charity doing fabulous work.  It was an honour to run for Lisi – she was the most caring, selfless, beautiful human being in the world.  She was always there for us, and for anyone who ever needed her. Her laughter was infectious and her attitude to life is one we can all only hope for.”

With just a fortnight to go to the run, the five-man team faced some serious injury issues.  Joel had shin splints, Robbie tore ankle ligaments, Joe suffered from extensor tendinosis, Jordy managed to get concussion (don’t ask), and Matt underwent surgery!

“It was a tough challenge, but nothing in comparison to what those battling cancer go through, that’s what kept all the boys moving,” says Joe.

Lisi died before the team ran the race, but she knew they had already raised £14k (from an original target of £5k).  “So many people who knew her have been incredibly generous,” says Joe.  “I’m hoping we can top the £25k.  It will be a great tribute to a wonderful person.”
