McTimoney Animal Association (MAA) Invited to Present at the London Vet Show 2022

McTimoney Animal Association (MAA) Chiropractic Practitioners Nikki Routledge MSc PGCLT, BSc (Hons) MMAA AHPR Reg'd FHEA and Vanessa Davidson MSc PGCE BSc (Hons) SFHEA MMAA AHPR have been invited to present throughout the 2-day London Vet Show, 17-18^th November at the Excel London. 

The McTimoney Animal Association (MAA) is representing McTimoney Chiropractic and can be found on the interactive stand that the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) is hosting along with other MSK associations (stand H50).

McTimoney MAA has the largest membership of trained animal practitioners with over 250 members and is working together with the McTimoney Chiropractic Association and the McTimoney College of Chiropractic to represent animal chiropractic at the event.

The London Vet Show is aimed at veterinary professionals and is an opportunity to learn from leading visionaries in the veterinary industry whilst offering CPD accredited certification.

Nikki Routledge has been a McTimoney Animal Practitioner for over 20 years treating competitive and pet horses and dogs in the Southwest of England.  Nikki also teaches students at the McTimoney College of Chiropractic.

At the show Nikki Routledge will investigate The Use of Animal Chiropractic within the Veterinary industry. The presentation will explore an understanding the mechanism by which chiropractic treatment improves symmetry, comfort and performance, enables us to integrate interventions across all musculoskeletal and veterinary spheres to the greatest benefit of the animal. Research evidence shows a clear change in muscle tone and reactivity post-chiropractic treatment in animals, and the lecture looks into the research available as well as the measures used. Kinematic research specific to chiropractic care shows increased range of motion and reduced asymmetry up to a week post-chiropractic intervention and this is particularly the case for pelvic balance which is of great importance in our sporting and performance animals. The application of chiropractic treatment to a range of species is also considered, leading on to a demonstration of treatment in the live canine later in the day.

A video of treatment will also be visible on the screen whilst a McTimoney Animal Practitioner explains the process including how the adjustments improve range of motion through specific areas of the canine skeletal frame, as well as their effect on the associated nervous and soft tissue systems.

Vanessa Davidson is an active McTimoney Animal Practitioner based in Somerset, treating primarily horses and dogs. Vanessa has also taught, managed, and written educational programmes over the past 25 years. Vanessa enjoys being involved in the education of practitioners and being able to advocate the importance of maintaining and improving standards in education to ensure the highest quality of work once qualified. Vanessa is also involved in the McTimoney Animal Association with whom practitioners register with upon graduation.

Vanessa will highlight the Importance of Pelvic Symmetry during her lecture and how it is increasingly recognised by practitioners, vets and now backed up through research as well, as key to performance in the horse. However, lesser known and somewhat surprising findings of recent research demonstrate an association between pelvic asymmetry and hoof growth, and the causes of pelvic asymmetry are often overlooked. From birth to acute and chronic causes of pelvic asymmetry, this lecture considers how different factors can influence the pelvic balance in horses and how the McTimoney technique facilitates kinematic change through treatment of this key area in both horses and dogs.

Later in the day a video of treatment of the horse will be visible on the screen whilst a McTimoney Animal Practitioner explains the process including how the adjustments improve comfort, range of motion and performance in the horse specifically.

McTimoney is a form of chiropractic manipulation used to treat pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system. It predominantly focuses on optimising alignment of the spine and pelvis in order to restore correct function of the skeletal system, nervous system and surrounding soft tissue. The technique is non-invasive and gentle and is readily accepted by animals. The treatment aims to resolve dysfunction and balance the animal's musculoskeletal system, restoring health and movement, soundness, and performance.
