Book The Met Book & 23 Great Shows In The UK Before You Travel
The New York Metropolitan Opera will be premiering two new productions in February as part of a packed 2014 season which also includes live transmissions to cinemas in the UK.
The first new production is Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor opens which opens on February 6 and has additional performances on Feb 10, 14, 17, 21 and 24, plus March 1, 4 and 8. It is lead by conductors Gianandrea Noseda and Pavel Smelkov. Prince Igor is played by Ildar Abdrazakov, Yaroslavna by Oksana Dyka, Konchakovna by Anita Rachvelishvili, Vladamir Igorevich by SergeySemishkur, Prince Galitsky by Mikhail Petrenko and Khan Konchak by Stefan Kocan.
The second new production this year is Massenet's Werther, with libertto by Edouard Blau, Paul Milliet and Georges Hartmann. It opens on February 18 with performances on Feb 22, and 28 and March 3, 7, 11 and 15, and is conducted by Alain Altinoglu. The role of Sophie is played by Lisette Oropesa, Charlotte by Elina Garanca, Werther by Jonas Kaufmann, Albert by David Bizic and Le Bailli by Jonathan Summers.
On February 26 The Met's Baroque fantasy The Enchanted Island returns after its critically acclaimed world-premiere run in 2011-12. It brings together the music of Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau, Purcell and other composers set to a new English libretto inspired by Shakespeare's The Tempest and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Performances continue on March 1, 5, 12 and 15. The all-star cast is lead by Susan Graham as Sycorax, with David Daniels, Danielle de Niese and the one and only Placido Domingo reprising their roles as Prospero, Ariel and Neptune.

For 2014 the opera company will also be continuing its hugely successful ‘The Met: Live in HD' series of international broadcasts to 1,900 cinemas in 64 countries, including 173 cinemas in the UK. Since its first broadcast in 2006 The Met Live in HD has been seen by over 3 million opera lovers.
