New app provides boost for Bradford’s children

The people behind the award-winning child-development app, 50 Things to Do Before You’re 5, have launched 50 Things Primary aimed at improving the social mobility for primary school aged children across Bradford.

50 Things Primary is designed to help children develop life skills and explore new interests, through local low cost and no cost activities at locations across Bradford, the same way our 50 Things to Do Before You’re Five has been working across the UK over the past four years.

The 50 Things approach has helped thousands of children improve language and literacy, motor skills and resilience, and to make a positive contribution to health in early childhood. The new app allows children to continue this development into their primary years with a focus on enabling children to become increasingly independent in their own decision-making.

Christian Bunting, Director of 50 Things, said:

“As a Bradford based non-profit organisation, we are pleased to extend the support we’ve given to under 5’s to primary school aged children across the city though our new app 50 Things Primary. This new app provides content, specifically designed for children, designed that will help them develop new skills and support independent learning.

Local parents told us they wanted to be able to continue to improve the home learning environment for their children beyond the age of five.  I’m delighted that we are able to do this for them and continue to support local children to develop.”

50 Things to Do Primary is being launched in Bradford on October 11th 2022 with events at the National Science and Media Museum and Cliffe Castle. Children from every school in Bradford have been invited to take part in a treasure hunt, where they will complete a sample the 50 activities in the app, and hear our Bradford born speakers share the story of how activities outside of school helped them on their journey through life.

Families across Bradford are bracing themselves for the cost-of-living crisis. 50 Things Primary is helping local families to maintain a strong home learning environment by promoting free and low-cost activities in the local community.

Christian Bunting, Director of 50 Things, addresses the need to support families in the current climate.

Families are understandably concerned about the cost-of-living crisis, but the crises should not prevent a strong home learning environment for Bradford’s children. No child should miss out. That’s why 50 Things Primary’s use of no cost and low-cost activities, to keep learning accessible for all families.
