Max Leuchars | Featured Artist

1stto 30thDecember 2022

Max Leuchars |Evening Jive

Throughout December, Whitewater Contemporary presents a Featured Artist exhibition of paintings by emerging young artist Max Leuchars.Leuchars attended Bryanston School, whose alumni include internationally respected artists Lucian Freud, Sir Howard Hodgkin and Sir Terence Conran, where his art classes introduced him to various artists and methods that inspire his work today. Max, currently aged just 22, lives and works in Hampshire and travels widely, seeking inspiration from both rural and urban scenes. He makes large scale paintings of the places he visits, attempting to recreate the sense of vitality and motion he observes by applying thick layers of oil paint with a palette knife, and then scratching lines and marks into the surface in the sgraffito style to imply movement, as well as scraping back layers of paint and reworking his surfaces to give a two-dimensional feel to the image. This collection includes works from various locations, including paintings of Scotland inspired by the Scottish Colourists, European street scenes, and a series of works inspired by Polzeath and the surrounding coast. This exhibition offers collectors the chance to acquire new paintings by an incredibly promising young artist.
