“There are strong rumours that Liz Truss will be announcing a cut in stamp duty in this week’s mini-budget, taking a leaf out of Rishi Sunak’s policy during Covid. But will it work again and stimulate the property market?

“Last time it did encourage buyers, thousands of whom rushed to meet the cut off deadline. The market is still active but naturally slows as Christmas approaches, buyers may be more concerned that mortgage rates are rapidly rising and the cost of living rocketing. The PM may find she has not created the stimulation she was hoping for.”
