Local charity appoints new CEO

Hi ,

I am writing with some exciting news that I think will be of interest to your readers, many of whom will be supporters of the Liphook based charity, Dreams Come True.

The children's charity has appointed a new CEO Lisa King OBE, who joins the charity after working at Refuge for 18 years. Lisa's 13-year-old son, Tom, is autistic and has global development delay and so she knows first-hand the challenges that children with life-limiting conditions face in today’s society.

Please see a press release below and an image attached.

DREAMS COME TRUE APPOINTS NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE

Monday 4 July Dreams Come True welcomed Lisa King, OBE as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Dreams Come True helps children who live in the highest areas of deprivation in the country. Some are living with a disability; some are living with serious illness, and some are living with life-limiting conditions. The charity works with these children and their families to bring moments of magic that have a lasting impact on their lives by making their dreams come true.

Lisa joins the Dreams Come True charity after working 18 years at Refuge, a national domestic abuse charity, where she was instrumental in building the charity, it's brand and public and political awareness from a small under-recognised charity to the household name it has become today.  Lisa was awarded an OBE for her services to domestic abuse in June 2021. Prior to working in the charity sector, Lisa honed her skills at major PR agencies such as Good Relations, part of the Chime Communications group.

Lisa says: “I am delighted to be joining the Dreams Come True team as its Chief Executive Officer. Working for Dreams Come True gives me an opportunity to combine my passion for challenging social injustice, this time through the lens of poverty and social deprivation, alongside my passion for improving the lives of children and young people who have it tough.

“I have a 13-year-old son, Tom, who is autistic and has global development delay and know first-hand the challenges that children like Tom face in today’s society.  I cannot wait to work with the wonderful team at Dreams Come True, alongside the dedicated and committed trustees and chair Simon Linares, to build the charity to ensure yet more children and young people living in socially deprived areas of the UK who experience great challenge can see their dreams come true.

“At a time when costs of living and poverty are on the rise, this charity could not be needed more and I am delighted to be able to put my near two decades of charity sector experience and expertise into ensuring we achieve the charity’s ambition and vision - making more dreams come true.”

Simon Linares, Chair of Dreams Come True says: “There are over 100,000 children and young people that can benefit from our support. I’m delighted Lisa is joining us as CEO and her passion and huge experience will help us grow and give more of these children the chance to have their Dreams Come True."
