This September, Whitewater Contemporary presents work by landscape painter Peter Turnbull, as part of its 2022 Featured Artist series.Peter has found inspiration for this new collection in the dramatic beauty of the North Cornwall Coast. His works explore the places where land makes way for the sea, where day and night meet on the shifting surface of the water, and our memories of time and place become permanent. Taking us along the coastline from Port Issac to Polzeath, past deep inlets and hidden coves, and over bridges that cross the rivers path to Cassocks Hill beach and the dunes at the mouth of the Camel estuary, the collection celebrates the unique visual and sensory beauty of this special landscape.Peter Turnbull studied at Nottingham College of Art and the Royal College of Art in both London and Paris. He has receivedthe Rodney Burn Award for figurative Drawing, was Head of Fine Art at the University of Chester, and later became Visiting Professor of Fine Art after embarking on his full-time career as a painter. His passion for painting the landscape is evident in his emphatic application of paint and rich surface textures, which reflect the traditional techniques of historic and contemporary British landscape painting.
