A scheme to deliver affordable homes in a Shropshire village has been completed, with the contractor handing over the site to Homes Plus, a leading provider of affordable homes in Shropshire and Staffordshire.

The three new affordable homes for rent in Linley Avenue, Pontesbury which have already welcomed their first Homes Plus customers all benefit from the latest ‘green' technology, including solar panels, water efficient sanitary fittings and charging points for electric vehicles.

Built by SJ Roberts Construction Ltd, they replace aging post-war homes that were of non-standard construction - boosting regeneration and improving the quality of housing stock in the village, which is located around eight miles from Shrewsbury.

Kerry Bolister, Director of development at Housing Plus Group, which includes Homes Plus explained: "We are delighted that these lovely new homes have been completed. They are certainly ‘fit for the future' and are set to provide affordable homes in a popular village for many years to come.

"They are also part of our wider commitment to start building 2,000 new homes across Shropshire and Staffordshire by 2023, while making a positive difference to the homes, lives and communities we serve."

Michael Sambrook, managing director ofS J Roberts, said the company was also delighted to have completed this project to a high standard for key client, Housing Plus Group.

"These energy efficient houses on a brownfield site in the centre of Pontesbury will provide fantastic homes for local people," he said. "During the project our site manager, Dean, forged a great relationship with the local school and neighbouring properties. This assisted hugely in minimising the disruption that can be caused by having a building project on your doorstep."

The development has also met with the approval ofPontesbury Parish Councilwith chair,Duncan Fletcher, saying: "These much-needed new homes really improve the appearance of a main route through the village and can be considered a valuable asset for the community."

The Linley Avenue development, which will soon welcome its first residents, has been completed with grant support of £135,000 from Homes England.

Darren Adnett, provider manager of Homes England, added. "Despite the current challenges affecting the country, accelerating housebuilding remains our number one priority. We are committed to supporting Housing Plus Group to build new, affordable homes and our investment through the affordable housing grant allows us to do that. We're delighted that this funding will enable Housing Plus Group to deliver much needed new homes in Pontesbury."
