VAN TAKEN OFF FLY-TIPPING REMOVAL FIRM

A removal company who fly-tipped the waste they had been paid to dispose of responsibly faces having its van crushed.

Middlesbrough Council's Environmental Flying Squad were on routine patrol in the Esher Street area in central Middlesbrough when they came across a large volume of waste that had been dumped in an alleyway.

It included mattresses, a broken bed, sofa, a large quantity of lino and carpets, broken up pieces of wood and general household waste.

Whilst the area was cleaned the matter was referred to the council's Environmental Neighbourhood Safety Wardens who found several pieces of evidence linking the waste to several properties in Middlesbrough and the Redcar and Cleveland area.

House visits were conducted by the Environmental Neighbourhood Safety Wardens and residents have come forward in disgust with details of the removal company who took their items away and subsequently fly tipped. As a result of these circumstances the vehicle involved has been seized under section 34B Environmental Protection Act 1990.

The vehicle owner now has 15 working days to come forward with details proving ownership of this vehicle. If not, the vehicle could be crushed.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "This is a great example of what can be achieved when people are pulling in the same direction, with the flying squad and investigating team doing some great work and being helped by members of the public who are rightly outraged about this kind of disgusting behaviour."

If anyone has any further evidence of this vehicle being used in further Fly Tipping offences you can report this to the local authority on the following email - evidence@middlesbrough.gov.uk 0r 01642 228500 quoting local authority reference number 565787.
