FURTHER FINES ISSUED FOR ILLEGAL MATCHDAY PARKING

A further 80 fines have been given out to motorists who have flouted the laws on parking around the Riverside Stadium.

Over a long period of time Middlesbrough Council has made repeated warnings to remind people heading to the football to park considerately.

Recently the authority put 400 warning notices on vehicles reminding drivers that their behaviour would lead to a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).

However, that warning was not heeded and at the home game against Swansea City on Saturday, December 4, a total of 85 PCNs were issued on the roads closest to the Riverside Stadium, including Dock Street, Heath Road, Priestman Road and Vulcan Street.

And ahead of the game with Bournemouth on Saturday, December 18 a further warning was issued stating that PCNs would be issued again for unlawful parking.

Despite the repeated warnings and previous fines given out, another 80 PCNs were issued at the game, which kicked off at 12.30pm, on Saturday.

Once again issues included illegal parking on grass verges, footpaths, central reservations, roundabouts and dangerously by slip roads.

The illegal parking has also caused damage to grass verges, footpaths, drain covers and kerbstones.

The PCN is a fine of £70, which is reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council said: "We hope the issuing of these Penalty Charge Notices and the repeated warnings will act to encourage people to park in a legal and considerate manner at future games."
