PLAQUE UNVEILED IN MEMORY OF THOSE LOST DURING PANDEMIC
A community has come together to remember those it has lost during the Covid-19 pandemic.
A plaque has been installed at Easterside Community Hub on Broughton Avenue in Middlesbrough in commemoration of people who have died since March last year, both from the virus and not.
The idea originated on the InTheBoro > Easterside Facebook page with residents suggesting it would be a nice touch and subsequently the Ladgate Community Council offered to fund it.
Local member of the community Michael Carney then asked the Hub manager Paula Marshall if she could help.
The plaque, which has now been unveiled at the Hub, has been welcomed by Ladgate's two councillors.
Cllr Craig Wright said: "The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating impact on all our lives. I was proud at how residents in my ward came together to help one another throughout. This memorial plaque is a fitting tribute to all those who passed away during the pandemic. I want to thank everyone who has been involved with this.
"I am grateful to Paula Marshall who has organised this tribute to our residents who have lost their lives during the pandemic. It stands as a fitting tribute to those who are no longer with us and it remains in the heart of our community - the hub."
Cllr Tony Grainge said: "I'd like to thank Michael Carney, Paula Marshall and everyone else who worked hard to put the plaque there. Not being able to attend funerals and gather together as family and friends was a really painful time over the pandemic for many people. How many people turned up for the unveiling of the plaque and seeing how Easterside comes together in hard times shows the importance of community and how we can support each other in times of adversity."
