A Staffordshire businessman who braved wet and windy conditions to go hillwalking in his kilt has helped to raise thousands of pounds for a leading cancer charity.

Gus Whyte, sales director at Hoppecke Industrial Batteries in Newcastle-under-Lyme, was among 90 people to climb hills around Coniston in the Lake District National Park. They put their best foot forward to support the Institute of Cancer Research.

The group's overall fundraising total topped £75,000. Gus, helped by wife Liz and supported by his company, friends and industry colleagues, contributed over £2,000.

Recognising the highest value donation collected by an individual, the Institute of Cancer Research awarded Gus the Climb of Life medal.

The Climb of Life is an important fundraiser for the charity and took place again after a two-year absence due to Covid restrictions.
