Yorkshire's first single malt whiskydistillery wins regional business award
The team at Yorkshire's first single malt whisky distillery are celebrating after winning a regional business award.
Hunmanby based Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery's Co-Founder, Tom Mellor was presented with the award forSmall Business of the Year at a gala dinner to celebrate the 30thanniversary of theYork PressBusiness Awards at York Racecourse recently.
In a ‘hotly contested final', Spirit of Yorkshire beat finalists theYorkshire Pasta Company and DAW Logistics Ltd and was praised forits ‘rapid growth, successful launch of a whisky in lockdown, and focus on sustainability.'
"Thanks to our flexible team, we were able to continue making, bottling and marketing Yorkshire's first single malt whisky throughout the lockdowns, so this win is for them," saidfellow Co-Founder, David Thompson.
David Coates, regional managing director of Newsquest (North) which owns The Press, told guests: "Despite the challenges of the last 18 months, the businesses represented here tonight will help our economy power out of the pandemic into a future that's every bit as bright as the last 30 years since we started these celebrations."
Spirit of Yorkshire is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor and business partner, David Thompson who launched Yorkshire's first single malt whisky in 2019.
