Awards for Sussex safety firm Pyroban

Safety company Pyroban® has won the ‘Manufacture and Engineering’ Award in the 2021 Adur and Worthing Business (AWB) Awards. Brighton based Apprentice Matthew Turner was also highly commended as a finalist in the ‘Young Achiever’ category.

“I’m so proud of what the company has achieved in the last few years,” says Steve Noakes, Managing Director of Pyroban, based in Shoreham by Sea, West Sussex, UK. “We have kept our manufacturing facility safe and open to provide explosion protection services to customers while still developing new products and services to expand our portfolio,”

Pyroban which has been based in Shoreham since the ‘80s provides bespoke solutions to protect mobile equipment such as forklifts, and fixed power systems that operate in potentially explosive atmospheres. Pyroban solutions are essential across a range of industry sectors all over the world including petrochemical, pharmaceutical, food and drink, aviation and the energy sectors where workers are at risk of explosion.

Pyroban received the award on 12th November in recognition of the business’ success and contribution to industry over the last 2 years. A high proportion of Pyroban’s products are exported and the company played an important role during the lockdowns in helping manufacturing and logistics staff in critical supply chains stay safe from the risk of explosion.

“For 50 years we have celebrated a culture that continually drives innovation both technically and as a business, and these last two years are no exception,” says Steve. “For example, we developed and launched Everclear™, a game-changing technology for power systems used in the energy sector.”

“The AWB Award is very well deserved by the whole Pyroban team and it’s wonderful to be recognised once again in our local community for our work on a global stage,” says Steve.  Pyroban previously won the ‘Manufacture and Engineering’ award in 2018 and the ‘Training and Development’ award in 2019.

Pyroban continually invests in staff development and this year Apprentice Matthew Turner became a finalist in the ‘Young Achiever’ category. Matthew joined as an Apprentice Electrical Technician on a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering in 2018 and worked incredibly hard over three tough years to achieve a Double Distinction for his BTEC Diploma in Engineering.

“Congratulations to Matt, but also to all our apprentices who have passed their courses this year,” says Camilla Missions, Production Manager at Pyroban. “We are so proud of their progress and thank them for their commitment and willingness to learn and immerse themselves in Pyroban’s culture with integrity and respect. They have continually progressed and have become an essential part of the Pyroban team.”

Pyroban’s Apprenticeship Programme began in October 2018 when the company announced a £500,000 investment which created a variety of new career opportunities. The Pyroban Apprenticeship Programme introduced new fresh talent into the company, with another new apprenticeship recruitment process starting in 2022. Pyroban has a history of almost 50 years in West Sussex, and remains committed to build on this heritage by providing sustainable jobs in the area with ongoing investment in the facility.

“Working at Pyroban gives local people the chance of a career with an industry-leading global business right on their doorstep and in an industry that saves lives,” says Camilla.
