LET'S HELP EVERYONE CELEBRATE XMAS JUMPER DAY

Donations of Christmas jumpers are wanted to make sure everyone in Middlesbrough can join in the annual celebrations.

A number of drop off points are now located around the town and a one-off swapping event has been organised at St Martin's Church, Whinney Banks Road from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, December 4.

Prior to that Christmas jumpers can be donated at:

  • Albert Park Visitor Centre
  • Barefoot Kitchen Cic, 2 Park Road South
  • Percy Middlesbrough, 2 Commerce Way, Skippers Lane
  • Mini Maestros, Earthbeat Centre, Old Saltburn School
  • The White Feather Project, 2 Kings Road, North Ormesby
  • Dart Foods, 1 Lansdown Road

Christmas Jumper Day is an annual event which started life as a fundraiser for the Save The Children charity which takes place on a specified day in December, in 2021 it will be Friday, December 10.

The project has been organised by Teesside Trails and both children's and adult's jumpers are wanted.

One of the organisers, Middlesbrough Councillor Philippa Storey, who represents the Linthorpe ward, said: "Christmas jumper day has become a Christmas staple in many schools and it can be extremely expensive for families.

"So we are asking for Xmas jumper donations for the Christmas jumper swap shop in December, exactly one week before the official Christmas Jumper Day."

Middlesbrough's Deputy Mayor and Executive Member for Culture and Communities, Cllr Mieka Smiles, added: "I love this idea. Dress up days are fun for everyone but I know from experience that costs can quickly escalate!

"A big well done to all those involved and I hope those who visit find some cracking Christmas jumpers."
