EVICTIONS OF THREE NIGHTMARE NEIGHBOURS WELCOMED

A COMMUNITY has pulled together to force evictions on the tenants of three properties who have been causing major anti-social issues.

Middlesbrough Council's Neighbourhood Safety Team issued a number of warnings to people in the Park End and Beckfield ward due to complaints over repeatedly recurring bad behaviour.

One of the properties involved motorbike nuisance on the estate, while at another property gang nuisance and fighting and arguing in the street was an issue.

In the third property a young person was involved in gang nuisance, verbal abuse to others and throwing missiles at windows and passing cars.

Due to the persistent complaints despite warnings and Tenancy Breaches being issued Neighbourhood Safety Officer worked closely with the private landlords involved and notice was served on the tenants.

Residents across Middlesbrough are now being reminded that if they report problems in their areas then action can be taken.

The eviction notices were welcomed by Park and Beckfield ward councillors Brian Hubbard, Mick Saunders and Stephen Hill.

They said: "For far too long, law-abiding residents have suffered at the hands of anti-social behaviour. The Mayor, Andy Preston, has been working hard clamping down on such poor behaviour.

"He has installed a new drive into the enforcement department, and to their credit they have acted accordingly. Whilst these evictions are encouraging, we are under no illusions of the massive task ahead, as we know our enforcement team can only work with private landlords.

"We hope Thirteen Housing take similar action on their tenants. This will see neighbourhoods returning back to the days where residents understood the boundaries of their behaviour.

"We want this to set a tone that will mean residents are no longer frightened to come forward and speak out and to provide evidence, whilst also sending out a clear message to those causing trouble that should they persist, then their days are numbered and they will be forced to move on."
