Plant specialist extends business web with spider platforms

 Ambitious plant specialist selects Hinowa spiders for growth

An East of England plant hire specialist has added a 14-metre Hinowa spider boom lift to its fleet to meet demand from customers for platforms that can operate in highly constrained space.

Anglian Plant has bought a Hinowa 14.70 Performance IIIS from Access Platform Sales (APS), sending it immediately out to its first hire customer.

The fast-expanding business sees strong potential for Hinowa spider platforms to meet a growing need to work at height in areas with limited space or sensitive ground conditions.

Anglian Plant owner and Managing Director Joe Paterson said: "We're impressed with the Hinowa 14.70 in terms of its build quality, ease of use, and excellent performance characteristics.

"The service delivered by APS has also been very helpful. We're a lean team so we value equipment suppliers like APS that supply machines that are ready to use out of the box with the least fuss."

Founded in 2009, Anglian Plant's hire fleet has doubled in size in the last three years. It has already invested £5million in the year to date to take the fleet to more than 400 machines with the same number of attachments.

The company hires and sells plant. Its core hire offer is a comprehensive range of excavators, dumpers and telehandlers. It also a range of welfare units, compaction equipment, attachments and small tools.

A growing mobile elevating working platform (MEWP) fleet includes scissor lifts and cherry pickers, in both all-terrain and formats, with Hinowa spider platforms also expected to take a larger share of the mix.

"Hinowa spider platforms have now firmly moved from a nice-to-have to a must-have in plant and powered access fleets, driven by customer demand and trends in operational conditions.

"Many new construction sites are more constrained while tightening of health and safety in other key sectors, such as tree management, making the ultra-compact design of Hinowa spider booms a key advantage."

The Hinowa 14.70 Performance IIIS has a maximum working height of 14m, maximum outreach of 7m and a travelling width of just 780mm. Track width can be extended at the touch of button to 1086mm for added stability.

The tracked spider cherry picker weighs just 1700kg and is ideal for operating across rough or unstable terrain. Anglian Plant's platform is diesel-powered. It can also operate off 110v AC mains power.

The platform can also be supplied in all-electric mode with lithium batteries or with a petrol engine.

Investing in Hinowa spider platform technology is an example of the sound operational and financial judgement that has safeguarded Anglian Plant during the COVID-19 pandemic and set it on course for a bright future.

Joe Paterson said: "The last 18 months have been a rollercoaster but, ultimately, a successful trading period. There have been many changes, both inside and outside the business, and we've emerged stronger and more efficient than we've ever been."

The Hinowa range has spider platforms with maximum working heights from 13m to 33m, including low-carbon bi-energy and lithium electric machines across all heights.
