MIDDLESBROUGH TO GO UP IN LIGHTS

MORE of Middlesbrough is set to go up in lights, Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston announced today.

A host of town centre buildings and structures are to have new lighting installed to show off their beauty, adding to a number already lit up in the town.

Next in line to receive the improvements will be:

  • Bell Structure in town centre
  • Dock Clock Tower
  • Middlesbrough Town Hall (north side)

Additional schemes are also set to be added into the improvement works which have a budget of £200k and come on the back of the successful lighting up of other buildings in the previous financial year.

Those already lit up include the Bottle of Notes, Centre Square, Central Library, Bedford Street, Exchange House, an A66 underpass and the Zetland car park.

Mr Preston said: "This is us saying not only are we going to protect our heritage and historic buildings but we're going to shout about them and show them off as well.

"Middlesbrough has a truly unique beautiful skyline and some of the most stunning buildings and structures around.

"When people arrive in Middlesbrough I want them to feel the same admiration for our heritage at night as they would during the day."

The scheme will go ahead if approved by the council's Executive at a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 13.

The works are considered a contribution to the council's strategic priorities for enhancing the appearance of the town centre.
