GIANT FOOTSTEPS FIRST ON THE STAGE

The curtain will go up once again at Middlesbrough Theatre this week with a world premiere double bill by local playwright, David Tuffnell, In the Footsteps of Giants.

After more than a year in darkness due to the coronavirus pandemic, the lights will be back shining on the theatre stage for main characters Stella and Michael.

As the world is beginning to change, secrets are revealed, lifelong friendships are challenged and a young art graduate prepares to walk in the footsteps of great artists, Turner, Keats and Wordsworth.

Opening on Wednesday, June 30 and playing until Saturday, July 3, tickets are now available and can be booked for a maximum of up to six people, in line with government guidelines.

Councillor Mieka Smiles, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive Member for Culture & Communities, said: "We have never been more ready to turn on the lights and welcome audiences back to the theatre.

"Every precaution is being taken to ensure that our visitors feel safe and can enjoy returning to their seats once again.

"To re-open with a world premiere from a local playwright is amazing and we are delighted to work alongside David for the first, post-Covid performance we will all cherish forever."

Theatre Manager David Lindsey said: "Over the past nine years, Middlesbrough Theatre and David Tuffnell's company less is MORE have worked closely together to provide opportunities for local actors, directors and writers.

"Many of them have had very limited access to government support over the past fifteen months and we can think of no better way of re-opening the theatre than by giving them the opportunity to do what they do best - and in the first performances of David's latest play."

Tickets for In the Footsteps of Giants can be booked on the Middlesbrough Theatre website: www.middlesbroughtheatre.co.uk or by calling the Box Office: 01642 815181.
