ST GEORGE FLAG TO FLY ABOVE TOWN HALL FOR EUROS

THE flag of St George is now flying proudly above Middlesbrough Town Hall as the nation prepares for "football coming home".

England's national flag has been flown on a prominent flagpole beside the Town Hall clock looking down on Albert Road.

It has been put up today (Friday, June 11) to coincide with the beginning of the Euro 2020 and will remain in place until the end of the European Championships.

England's first game is against Croatia on Sunday, June 13 at 2pm at Wembley Stadium. They will then play against Scotland on Friday, June 18, at 8pm and then the Czech Republic on Tuesday, June 22 at 8pm.

The final of the tournament will also be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, July 11.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "In Middlesbrough we're proud of our town and proud of our country - so it's great that we're flying the English flag when our country is hosting the Euros.

"We fly flags for all kinds of events and themes and I'm just pleased that we're flying the flag for England during the football tournament."
