DISMAY AFTER REPEAT FLY TIPPING AND A BURNT OUT CAR
MIDDLESBROUGH councillors have spoken of their dismay after an "eye-sore fly tipping" was cleaned up - only to be replaced soon after by a burnt out car.
The initial incident saw items including a fridge, a sofa and general waste dumped to the rear of Vaughan Shops in Netherfields.
Middlesbrough Council's newly formed Environment and Community Services Fly Tipping Squad visited the area at the same time as a visit to Roworth Road in Thorntree following reports of another unsightly mess.
Both visits were combined and council workers filled two caged vehicles with the rubbish that had been dumped.
However evidence pointing to the perpetrators was also found and enforcement action is now being pursued.
Cllr Brian Hubbard and his colleagues in the Park End and Beckfield ward Cllr Mick Saunders and Cllr Stephen Hill expressed their gratitude to the fly-tipping squad for clearing the area - but their mood soon turned to despair when a burnt out car was dumped on the site within days.
They said:"We're grateful to Middlesbrough Council for stepping in and removing the eye-sore fly tipping from the rear of the Vaughan Shops, which we have been fighting to have cleared for many months.
"We now hope the businesses who are responsible for the area maintain it properly and keep it up to the standards we and local residents expect.
"What's disappointing is that, less than a week after our Area Care team finished cleansing the area, there's already several fridges and even a burned out car on site!
"Fly tipping and eye-sores are the things we hear most about from residents, but we need their help to keep our communities clean and safe."
