A Staffordshire-based cricket club is set to achieve tough fundraising targets for a new pavilion thanks to sponsorship from Howards Chartered Certified Accountants.

At the end of last year, the financial outlook for Church Eaton Cricket Club was grim, with the pandemic putting a stop to all income-generating activities. But the management team decided to look at crowdfunding to source investment for a much-needed new pavilion which will bring new life to the club as lockdown restrictions ease.

The total funding for the new building is £60,000 and the club set a target of £9,000 in the month of May, to secure the crowdfunding. The good news is that this sum has been exceeded, so the club is now looking topush the crowdfunding total to £12,000 by the end of this month. With the help of Howards, the team are much closer to getting the money they need to save the club.

Says Matt Bailey, managing director at Howards: "It has been a tough year for many local businesses, but perhaps it is local clubs that have suffered a lot. However, they will play a vital role in the health, wellbeing, and cohesion of our communities as we come out of lockdown. We are therefore pleased to help this pillar of the local community to carry on doing its important work."

Victoria Chinchen, club secretary says: "Howards' sponsorship has come at a vital time in the fundraising process. We hope that in the next two weeks we can meet the revised £12,000 target to secure funding for the new club house. We are already seeing the effects of this pandemic on our members' and visitors' mental health and this investment will enable us to enhance our facilities for everyone involved, including the local authority's children in care."

Based in the village of Church Eaton, the cricket club has been running for over 50 years. Being at the heart of the community, it offers a variety of events to encourage local families to engage with the sport in whatever way suits them. The club is calling on all local people to support it in the final hurdle to reach its target.

The Women's Cricket Festival on Sunday May 23 is open to the public and spectators are welcome. All proceeds will go towards securing the club's target in these vital few days.
