Barnsley business man releases debut book 'Not For All The Tea In China'

Good afternoon,

It took Barnsley lad, Chris Burrows, 50 years to follow his Dad's advice and have a go at setting up his own business. Written in the inimitable tone, voice and sense of humour of a typical 70-year-old Yorkshireman,Not For All The Tea in China, is the story of 16 years in self-employment, which saw Chris travel across the UK, to Ireland, Latvia, Slovakia, Germany, Spain, France (where he settled down for a while), Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Russia, Italy, America and, of course, to China, and see, hear and experience things he never thought possible! A world outside of Yorkshire... and plenty of memories to share with friends, family and peers. Chris' friend bought him a Dictaphone and told him to record all his stories of adventure and travel to put into a book - which makes this memoir read as though you're being chatted to by a happy-go-lucky Yorkshireman regaling you with his life story (and the ‘foreign food' he tried - or not - along the way!).

Chris is available for media interviews from his home in Barnsley and we can send you digital/paperback copies ofNot For All The Tea in Chinafor review consideration and competition prizes! If you'd like more information, please get in touch. The Media Information Sheet is below with more info there too!

"Authentic, honest and humorous words straight out of the mouth of a true Yorkshireman."

Chris invites you to join him as he reminisces about his travels around the world, meeting (in his words) some weird and wonderful people in some wonderful and weird places.

My Sunday lunch was at McDonald's. But it didn't matter because at least I was going to get something to eat that I recognised and didn't have to worry about what it was. Over there - just a slight aside - I had rat, cat, dog, snake. You name it, I had it. And they always told me - eventually told me - what it was that I was consuming, with one very notable exception, which I did eventually prise out of them, for the simple reason that I knew what it was because we eat it here. But they thought that this would be beyond the pale for me and that I wouldn't want to know what I was eating. And that, strange as it may seem, was black pudding. They didn't think I would like the idea of pig's blood. And I said, "Oh we eat this quite a lot," - or some of us do. I do. I like a piece of well-prepared black pudding. There is a habit, particularly in the south of England to cook it until it's like shoe leather and then plonk it in slices onto a tray and say, "Well help yourself."

About the Author

Chris Burrows shares his incredible experiences of a life spent working and travelling between Yorkshire and China. With a typical Yorkshireman sense of humour, this is a memoir that is honest, true and authentic. Chris has written about the world of business through the gaze of a mixture of reality, humour and, on occasions, sheer disbelief. Every word and every event document are the absolute truth.

Chris has three great loves in his life: Barnsley FC, Yorkshire County Cricket Club and his wonderful wife. He says, "My wife is my rock; Yorkshire CCC are my summertime passion; the Super Reds break my heart year after year - but I wouldn't swap them for any other team in the world."
