Boots.com warehouse visit proves a highlight of KNAPP's e-commerce event

KNAPP welcomed existing and prospective customers from across Europe to its ‘Move Ecom' event recently. Over 30 companies representing a variety of blue-chip brands attended the two-day event, which included a visit to the warehouse of KNAPP client, Boots.com.

Visitors were given a full tour of the e-tailer's facility in Burton-upon-Trent, opened last year, even venturing inside the fully automated OSR ShuttleTMstore. They also heard from Boots executives – including Craig Farina, the company's Director of Logistics – about how automated systems from KNAPP have helped to meet rapidly growing e-commerce sales. Move Ecom was one of four visitor events staged by the KNAPP group in late September and early October, each focused on one of its core business segments. The other events were Move Pharma, held in Austria; Move Fashion, held in France; and Move Food, held in Switzerland.

Other highlights of the Move Ecom event here in the UK were highly informative presentations from Heather Holman, Operations Support Manager for John Lewis, and Sverker Lindbo, Head of Concept Development at Ocado. Heather Holman told the story of John Lewis' state-of-the-art National Distribution Centre in Milton Keynes – including the latest chapter, a new 675,000 sq ft facility being built immediately adjacent to the existing warehouse. Sverker Lindbo explained how automated handling systems from KNAPP have helped Ocado to meet growing demand at its DCs in Hatfield and Tamworth as part of its hub-and-spoke distribution model. He also told delegates about the company's latest strategies including the tie-up with Morrisons; the launch of Fetch, its online pet store; and ‘evenmore', its new non-food offering. Visitors were also treated to guided tour and a six-course beer-tasting menu at the National Brewery Centre in Burton.

Commenting on the success of the Move Ecom event, Craig Rollason, Managing Director of KNAPP UK, said, "We are delighted that so many of our customers and prospective clients attended Move Ecom and we're particularly grateful to Boots, John Lewis and Ocado for making the event so informative for our guests."
