Having struggled with the career's system and career decision making throughout his own youth, entrepreneur Chris Davis decided it was time to put ambitious individuals in control of their own career paths from the start.
Chris Davis, the Career Development Network's founder, explains how the idea came about. "I was never sure what I wanted to do when I was growing up. When I was at college we were given a list of companies we could work for and told to pick one. I ended up doing work experience as a cleaner! It's very common not to know exactly what you want to do especially five or ten years down the road. Like many of my friends we got our qualifications then stumbled into jobs that led to other things and on to where we are today."
Realising that there was a different approach that could be adopted Chris began setting out a vision for a career development network that enabled people of all ages to build a career based support network of their own. "If a person has the drive and ambition to be proactive in their career decisions then they deserve help. They shouldn't be limited by their current careers advisers network or personal contacts. Using online networking an individual can begin to build their own personal network of contacts that is relevant to them."
Since its launch the network has been receiving support from career services and organisations all around the UK. "The support from experts has been great. This has been a huge boost and has enabled us to expand the network across the UK," reveals Chris.

Having previously seen the benefit of supportive networking for other life issues, Chris used his own contacts to seed the network. "The people I approached all wanted to help right from the ideas stage," Chris explains. "Having the right person to turn to at the right time can make a huge difference to an individual's chances of success, especially when pursuing an ambitious career goal or career change."
