Hird takes delivery of first Oil&Steel truck mounts

National powered access and lifting specialist Hird has taken delivery of its first Oil&Steel truck mounted access platforms as it introduces the brand back into the UK powered access market.

As the new UK and Ireland distributor for the Italian platforms, Hull-based Hird is preparing to meet expected strong demand for the highly-capable machines.

Hird Managing Director Phil Hird said: "Oil&Steel truck mounted platforms are designed to be easy to use, with excellent safety features and smart controls that make working at height easier and faster.

"We're confident our Oil&Steel platforms will do very well in the UK market. There is strong demand for a vehicle that can provide working at height at multiple locations in one shift."

There is a growing market for truck mount platforms in the UK due to infrastructure programmes like 5G communications, management of ash dieback, and property managers and developers seeking more cost-effective to carry out maintenance and construction tasks at height.

The Snake 2010H Plus is an articulating platform on a 3.5t IVECO chassis so can be driven on a standard car licence.

It delivers a maximum working height of 20m and a maximum working outreach of an impressive 10m, combined with excellent up and over performance.

The Snake 2010H Plushas a very compact outrigger footprint making it an excellent choice for operating in confined spaces. Outriggers can be deployed in various configurations to take account of space and obstacles.

The truck mount platform's double pantograph boom allows the basket to be moved up and down the side of a building in a perfect vertical plane with no adjustment of controls, aiding safety and productivity.

The Scorpion 2013 has a three-part telescopic boom based on the same 3.5t IVECO chassis (so can also be driven on a care licence). It has a maximum working height of 19.9m and outreach of 12.5m.

The truck mount alsohas an impressive 250kg basket capacity at a restricted maximum working height of 19.5m and provides particularly fast set up and stow functions, boosting working at height productivity.

Hird is also marketing Oil&Steel Octopus tracked spider platforms, with working heights from 17m to 23m, which are ideally suited for accessing confined spaces and are likely to be particularly popular with tree surgeons and building maintenance and surveying professionals, as well as the access rental companies that serve them.
