North Yorkshire rapeseed oil business brings local producers together

The team at a Thixendale family farming business has launched an initiative to connect local businesses for the benefit of their customers.

Jennie Palmer from Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil approached selected Yorkshire businesses to participate in the ‘Eat Yorkshire' promotion that will run throughout March.

"For us and many of our business friends, meeting up and selling at food fairs and farmers' markets is a great part of the job that we have really missed this year.

"I wanted to do something to give something back our loyal customers, so I approached like minded family businesses to take part in a virtual food fair with a difference: Eat Yorkshire.

"There are 12 businesses taking part in the initiative and all will offer a discount on online orders from 1stto 31stMarch."

One of the businesses that is looking forward to taking part is Staal Smokehouse from Beverley, East Yorkshire. Founder, Justin Staal said: "We first met Adam and Jennie from Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil at a farm shop tasting event in 2012 and went on to collaborate on an award winning smoked oil: "We've really missed the show season, so we're delighted to be taking part in Jennie's innovative virtual show initiative.  We hope that we can create show-like engagement with our customers and fellow family business owners on social media - it will certainly be warmer doing it this way than standing on a market stall!"

The list of businesses taking part is Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil, Staal Smokehouse, Side Oven Bakery, The Chilli Jam Man, Wold Top Brewery, Sloemotion, Anna's Happy Trotters, Raisthorpe Manor, Lottie Shaws, Puckett's Pickles, Yorkshire Wolds Apple Juice and Yorkshire Tonics.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil will create an Eat Yorkshire landing page on its website that will include links to all participants and will promote the initiative via social media.

Yorkshire Rapeseed Oil was established in 2008 by Adam and Jennie Palmer on their farm in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds. They produce a range ofoils, dressings and mayonnaisebased on their rapeseed oil that is produced exclusively from home and Yorkshire Wolds grown rape thatis pressed, blended, bottled and labelled on the family farm.
