A charity established by one of the region's leading housing providers has received a welcome boost from one of its construction partners.

The Housing Plus Group Community Fund supports a range of initiatives that benefit communities served by the housing association, and it recently welcomed a £250 donation from the company building a landmark project in Stafford.

Barnfield Construction is currently on site at a development located onthe corner of Riverway and Lammascote Road, which will provide80 one- and two-bedroomed apartments.

Built on behalf of Stafford and Rural Homes  which is now part of Housing Plus Group, the new homes are located on a key gateway to the town and when finished will be available for affordable rent exclusively for people aged 55-plus.

The donation is being made by Barnfield Construction's site manager after his team scooped the company's Best Site Award and chose the Community Fund as the beneficiary of the £250 prize.

Jan Goode, Neighbourhoods Director at Housing Plus Group said: "Since it was founded our Community Fund has been used to help groups and individuals that share our vision of making a positive difference to homes, lives and communities.

"We welcome this generous donation by the Barnfield Construction team, and the money will provide a real boost to our plans to further support the communities we serve.

"It comes as this prestigious development in Stafford enters the final stages of construction, with a completion date expected in late spring 2021."

The partnership with the construction firm is helping Housing Plus Group, following its merger with SARH, to fulfil its ambitious pledge to start to build 2,000 much-needed new homes, helping to tackle the national housing crisis.

Charlotte Pickup, Marketing Manager from Barnfield Construction added: "Every other month throughout 2020 we have awarded one of our construction sites with the Best Site Award, and the site manager receives £250 to donate to a charity of their choice.  Phil Cook won this award for receiving exemplary success from an external Health & Safety audit, together with his consistent proactivity and tightly run site."
