Reusable Facemask Partners With Save The Med Foundation to Protect Marine Life

REUSABLE FACEMASK PARTNERS WITH SAVE THE MED FOUNDATION TO HELP PROTECT MARINE LIFE

Liquid Nano, a UK based company that develops multi-use face masks with anti-viral fabric coatings, has partnered withSave The Med Foundationto help support marine protected areas.

Save The Med is a non-profit foundation that aims to help the Mediterranean Sea to recover its rich biodiversity and now, with the purchase of each LiquidNano mask, £2 is donated directly to the charity.

Environmentalistsare on high-alert after reports that the high usage of single-use surgical masks during the pandemic led to a spike in ocean pollution, adding to an excess of plastic waste that threatens marine life.

The Mediterranean already sees 570,000 tonnes of plastic flow into it annually, the equivalent of dumping 33,800 plastic bottles into the sea every minute, and the fallout of mask pollution can already be seen with single-use masks seen floating like jellyfish, washing up on shorelines and littering the seabed.

The majority of disposable masks are manufactured from long-lasting plastic materials and can take as long as 450 years to decompose.

Using reusable, machine washable masks significantly reduces this environmental impact and the LiquidNano mask in particular is lauded for its longevity as each mask can be used for up to 20 weeks.

In comparison, within the same timeframe of 20 weeks, if someone used 3 disposable masks a day, that would add up to 420 masks used per person.

LiquidNano Director, Andy Middleton, said: "We are delighted to become Corporate Partners with the amazing team at Save The Med Foundation who are doing incredible work to enable the Mediterranean Sea to recover its rich biodiversity.

"During this pandemic, all of us have to wear masks but we don't have to destroy the environment by doing so.

"For the good of our oceans, it's essential we all use reusable facemasks and that's why, for every LiquidNano mask sold we will donate £2 to SavetheMed to aid them in their ongoing mission to keep the Mediterranean clean and healthy."

The LiquidNano masks are developed using nano-technology and are coated with DiOX D4 which has been tested to retain its efficacy fully for up to 20 washes.

About DiOX 4

DiOX D4 is an anti microbial technology based on an aqueous solution of quaternary ammonium salts, which have proven efficacy against bacteria (including odour control) and viruses.  The long chain molecular structure of DIOX D4 enhances efficacy using a mechanical action to spear the outer cell of a pathogen.
