Could the nation be spicing things up on their dinner table this Christmas?

It seems that Lockdown has made the nation more adventurous with food and flavours according to a new *survey by herb and spice mixologist Flavour King.

And the hotter the better it would seem, with people choosing fiery Cajun and kickin' Piri Piri over milder spice blends like Chinese Five Spice and Tandoori.

Cajun topped the list of flavours tried for the first time during the first Lockdown of 2020, with more than a third (37%) of respondents opting for this chilli-based blend.

While the nation's tastes may have changed it seems that the time women spend cooking hasn't. The survey found that nearly half (49%) of women do the majority of cooking with 75 per cent of them spending 4+ hours a week preparing, and cooking meals compared to only 40 per cent of men.

The national survey was conducted by Flavour King from September - October following the end of the first Lockdown.

Jason Hill founder, chief herb and spice blender and taste maker at Flavour King, said: "I am delighted that Brits have taken Lockdown as an opportunity to discover new flavours. There are some wonderful herbs and spices that can transform and elevate the simplest of dishes, packing them with flavour rather than fat and sugar."

The survey into how the nation's cooking habits have changed during the pandemic, also found that nearly 70 per cent of us (67%) are now cooking more from scratch than they were prior to the lockdown and we're taking inspiration from online sources rather than cookery books and TV programmes.

Social media, it seems, has become the top source of inspiration for cooks, with 69 per cent now choosing platforms like Instagram and Facebook for recipe and meal inspiration.

To help meet the demand for cooking inspiration, Flavour King has created a community of ‘Inspirationalists', comprising enthusiastic amateur cooks and professional chefs who use Flavour King's 14-strong range of herb and spice blends. Together they create dishes and recipes packed full of flavour which they share with Flavour King's Facebook and Instagram followers, encouraging them to also get creative with herbs and spices.
