East Yorkshire support group celebratesCoronavirus Community Support Fund gain

The team at an East Yorkshire bereavement support group are celebrating after winning funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund.

Market Weighton based registered charity Talking about Loss has been awarded £9990 to help provide open access bereavement services from the Covid-19 fund that is distributed by the National Lottery Community Fund.

The charity's founder, Jacqueline Gunn is delighted with the news: "Funding from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund will help us to complete the refurbishments to our Community Hub in Market Weighton, that we hope to get up and running as soon as Covid-19 restrictions permit.

"Having a meeting place where people who have experience loss of any sort can talk to like-minded people will be fantastic for our community, so we'd like to say a big ‘Thank you' to the Government for making this possible."

Plans for the Community Hub include a social area, a dementia friendly area with a 1950s theme, a children's play corner and a treatment/therapy room. Activities on offer will include crafts, mindfulness, skills sessions, guest speakers and workshops.

Mrs. Gunn was inspired to use the legacy that her father, Christopher Munby left her to set up a support group for people to talk about loss and hosted Talking about Loss's first meeting in June 2019.

Talking about the launch of the Market Weighton Community Hub, Mrs. Gunn said: "Talking about Loss is a warm, friendly, supportive peer led meet up group that was set up for people to talk freely about loss and enjoy regular activities together.

"The Hub will offer a friendly, sociable, comfortable space for people of all ages to come and be with like-minded people.

"I know from personal experience that many of us struggle with loss and that some days are better than others, but  being with people who know what you are going through can make a real difference."
