Be Ethical Training Helps Companies Become Clear About Their Responsibilities

Two businesswomen from the North West have joined forces to launch a corporate social responsibility (CSR) training company, to help create accountability within organisations. Be Ethical Training offers a four-step programme that enables business owners and CEO's to understand the responsible activity already in place in their organisation and areas to be developed. Offering a training and coaching programme to support an internal candidate to deliver and manage a responsible plan for the business.

Already consulting in CSR and as working mothers, Heather de Groot and Caroline Swailes decided to support one another by going into business together. In exploring the possibilities, they realised there is a gap in the market when coordinating and managing responsible activity within SME's. Especially for those companies looking to get clear about responsibility, in support of their sustainability and growth.

With their extensive experience as the CSR programme manager for Bibby Line Group, consecutively from 2006-2017, managing their global programme, they felt they could serve companies that are ready to take their activities to the next level.

Being conscious of how organisations have had to adapt and change the way they do business, due to the current climate, they believe it is a perfect time to review and reassess everything that comes under responsibility. Their programme aims to help business owners understand what more they can do in support of their employees, communities and the environment, offering a benchmark for practices in their sector and locality. Further survey outcomes aim to help them make changes across their business and industry, to help them come back stronger from any adverse effects of the pandemic.

Co-Founder and Director Heather de Groot comments ‘ Having worked and consulted in CSR we felt it was time to go in to business together, packaging all our combined experience and expertise into a four-step programme. We are so passionate about being able to give businesses clarity and accountability when it comes to their responsible activities, together with assisting their candidate to feel confident and supported in sharing that businesses success.

The Be Ethical website offers a free online quiz, giving an overview of current responsible activity. The site then enables a business to sign in to an online portal to complete an in-depth responsibility survey. Once completed, the survey becomes the basis for their candidate's training, taking eight weeks to complete, helping to build a programme and create accountability. Training modules include strategy and framework, stakeholder engagement, KPI's & reporting and continuous improvement. The candidate then goes on to join an online network of responsibility specialists who support one another with best practice, as part of a coaching offer, lasting six months.

Ensuring they can offer knowledge and guidance in the areas they are less experienced, Be Ethical Training has partnered with specialists, in areas including diversity, employee engagement, trusts & foundations and governance, as part of their affiliate programme.

When launching the business, both directors could see an opportunity for them to take their offer online and with the support of an investor have been able to develop their site to make it as simple as possible to participate in their four-step programme. All of their training is delivered online, together with their events, affiliate workshops and coaching. Until the time that they can get back to meeting face to face, they have embraced the world of online to bring Be Ethical Training to market.
