Yorkshire coast sister companies shortlisted in Yorkshire business excellence awards

 

The team at a Yorkshire coast brewery and Yorkshire's first whisky distillery are celebrating after being announced as finalists in the 15th annualYorkshire PostExcellence in Business awards.

 

Wold Top Brewery has been shortlisted in the Rural Awards category that celebrates thecontribution rural businesses make to the local community by creating jobs and innovating, and sister company, Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has reached the final of the Young Business of the Year Award that rewards rapidly growing businesses in the Yorkshire region.

 

Co-founder of both Wold Top and Spirit of Yorkshire, Tom Mellor said: "Both businesses have shown great resilience during the last six months and it's a real boost to be shortlisted in these prestigious awards."

 

The family businesses were two of 180 businesses entering the awards whose winners will be announced at a digitally streamed ceremony on 4thNovember. Wold Top faces competition from Econ Engineering Ltd, York Handmade Brick Company and I'Anson Brothers, whilst Spirit of Yorkshire is joined by Plant-U Energy and Yorkshire Lamb Orphanage in the final.

 

Of the awards, Greg Wright, deputy business editor of the organiser,Yorkshire Postsaid: "The wonderful, dynamic enterprising companies that have earned a place on the shortlist prove that our region is the best in the UK to do business."

 

Farm-based Wold Top brews cask, keg and bottled ales from home and Wolds grown malting barley, hops and pure, chalk-filtered Yorkshire Wolds water.

 

Spirit of Yorkshire is a field to bottle distillery that was launched in 2016, with its first single malt whisky bottled in 2019. It is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top and business partner, David Thompson. It is one of only a handful of distilleries that uses 100% home grown wheat to produce its single malt whisky.
